HOOPS SECURE LOCAL DERBY HONOURS

Lurgan Celtic remain in the hunt at the top of the table following this derby defeat of newly promoted Dollingstown at Knockramer Park.

A sizable crowd enjoyed a tightly fought contest between two well matched sides and although the game wasn't a classic due to too much being at stake, the spectators were kept entertained as the teams cautiously probed each other looking for an opening.

An early snap shot forced Michael Goff in the Celtic goal to make a save and although little separated the sides the visitors dominated the midfield although the Celtic trio of Raymond Fitzpatrick, Daniel Ryan and Chris Lavery always looked a threat up front with the latter hitting the post on the half hour mark and Fitzpatrick having two efforts off target.

Just prior to the interval Ryan made a dangerous tackle as he attempted to retrieve the ball and after the dust had settled but he and Dollingstown's Neil King received their marching orders from referee Tim Marshall.

Celtic took the lead on the hour when Fitzpatrick deftly headed home Declan McVeigh's superb cross.

Dollingstown's Adam Montgomery then had a header hit the crossbar with Goff vainly trying to tip it over and moments later sent a gilt edged chance past the far post with the Hoops 'keeper isolated.

The points were sealed towards the end when Fitzpatrick's shot was parried by the 'keeper but Chris Lavery pounced to slam the follow-up home from close range.
