PEDEN SPOT ON FOR PORTSTEWART

After a fairly even start, Queen's got on top and made a number of good chances but didn't take them and went in level at the break.

The start of the second period followed the same pattern but, totally against the run of play, it was the home team which fell behind on 53 minutes when Paul McDonald was adjudged to have fouled Portstewart's Robert Donnell in the box.

The ever reliable James Peden stepped up to fire low into the left corner giving Queen's keeper Paul McCann, no chance.

Queen's upped the tempo as they went all out for an equaliser.

They made a string of chances but poor finishing and some excellent goalkeeping by Joel Madison kept them out.

The closest they came was when left back Ryan Murray hit a ferocious drive from the left wing. The ball rebounded off the top of the post to Ryan Murphy whose shot was cleared off the line.

Madison also made a great tip over save from Connor Mulholland's header.

Portstewart also missed a good opportunity when the Queen's defenders allowed a long ball to go through to keeper McCann but Portstewart sub Connor McNamee nipped in and flicked it over McCann but over the bar as well.
