QUEEN'S UNIVERSITY 2-1 BALLYCLARE COMRADES
24th Oct 2011
THIS was a big day for Queen's University Football Club, their first game in their new stadium and their first 'home' game for over eight years.
Queen's were on top from the start and came close in the first minute but didn't have long to wait for their first goal.
Midfielder Paddy Donnelly beat a number of defenders on the edge of the box and fired a great low drive into the far corner with ten minutes gone.
Soon it was two nil. Connor Mulholland outpaced the Ballyclare defence and laid on a perfect pass to James Lavery who slotted home a low shot under the outrushing Ross Glendenning.
Within five minutes Ballyclare got one back. From a corner Mark McClelland headed the ball back across the goal and defender Stuart McCullough scored from close range.
Ballyclare came more into the game and were dangerous from set pieces in a very entertaining game.
Just before the break Lavery's goal bound shot was deflected narrowly over the crossbar.
The second half was scrappier and as it wore on Ballyclare with the wind and rain at their backs, pushed Queen's back for long periods.
They had a number of chances but were unable to find an equaliser and so Queen's opened their account on the new ground with a welcome victory.
