TIGHT ENCOUNTER AT THE DUB

Lurgan Celtic lost a little ground at the top of the table following this scoreless draw at The Dub.

Queen's came close to opening the scoring in the first minute when a cross from the right wing found Ryan Murphy but his effort was well blocked by Lurgan Celtic keeper Michael Goff.

Gradually the visitors got on top and had two headed chances in quick succession for John Cochrane and Raymond Fitzpatrick but their efforts missed the target.

As half-time approached Queen's had a series of good crosses into the box but no one was able to finish them.

The visitors came close ten minutes into the second half when a free-kick was awarded on the edge of the box after home 'keeper Declan Brown carried the ball out of the penalty area.

However, Niall Lavery's low drive was turned onto the post by Brown who was fortunate that the ball rebounded into his arms.

This was a close as either team came. Conor Mulholland made a great run on the left wing and laid the ball into the path of Michael Allison who shot wide from a good position.
